Wayne Terminal (MI)

Main responsibilities of car hauler will include transportation of vehicles to dealerships in a safe, timely and damage free manner.  Vehicles will be inspected for prior transit damage, loaded onto semi trailer, transported to destination, unloaded and delivered.  
 

Wayne is considered a regional terminal that has deliveries in IL, IN, MI, OH, and KY.  While away from home, corporate lodging will be provided to stay in hotels, as Jack Cooper's tractors are solely day cabs.  Home time can usually be expected every couple days.  Dispatch begins at 7am. Work week is Monday through Saturday so you must have open availability to work Monday through Saturday.  You must also be able to operate a semi with a manual transmission.  No exceptions. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Load, unload & transport vehicles to/from manufacturing plants, rail heads, and dealerships in a safe and timely manner while meeting delivery schedules

  • Inspect vehicles for defects and damages prior to loading

  • Operate electronic log system

  • Comply with DOT rules and regulations and company policies and procedures

PAY

  • Compensation of up to $1.53/mile, plus loading/unloading pay

  • $200/day Orientation and Training Pay

  • Breakdown pay

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have two (2) years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience; OR one (1) year verifiable tractor/trailer driving experience with trucking school certification.

  • Applicant must possess a valid Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement

  • Must possess the skills to drive a vehicle safely and to pass a commercial driver's road test.

  • No more than a combination of 3 moving violations/at-fault accidents in the last 3 years from date of application

  • Must be able to operate a manual semi transmission and not have any automatic restrictions on license 

  • Must read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public

  • No previous alcohol convictions in the past three years or any time while operating a CMV

  • No theft charges from the last 5 years from date of application 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be willing to work outdoors, in all weather conditions, in a physically demanding environment 

  • Physical agility to include, but may not be limited to, walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, lifting up to 100 pounds, pushing, pulling, stretching, climbing and balancing

  • Visual acuity, including but may not be limited to, close up and distance, peripheral sight, ability to discern color

  • Ability to perform effectively at heights up to 16 feet
