FLEET MANAGER – Fort Wayne, Indiana
Tuesday-Friday 8 am-4 pm, Saturday 6:00 am-2:00 pm.
If dispatch is closed on Saturday (which is rare), the employee will be required to work Monday through Friday that week.
Job Summary
We are looking for a Fleet Manager to perform various duties that will foster a work environment consistent with the company's values, vision, mission, policies, and procedures. The manager will monitor and supervise a fleet of car hauler drivers in the areas of quality, safety, productivity, and DOT compliance.
Essential Functions:
• Collaborate with Terminal managers and Risk Management to ensure employees are properly trained, have the necessary quality and safety resources, and comply with company policies.
• Manage and track driver productivity/availability.
• Ensure driver loads are consistent with equipment capacity, Load Factor, and Load Efficiency standards.
• Audit load efficiency and compliance with DOT/MOT regulations.
• Ensure driver assignments are properly documented; ensure compliance with assignments.
• Ensure the drop sequence is clear to the driver and obtain driver acknowledgment/agreement.
• Update and maintain inventory and load data daily.
• Monitor cargo and injury claims; analyze causes; report trends; provide recommendations for safety enhancements.
• Fully investigate accidents, injuries, and damage claims and report incidents to Terminal Management and Risk Management in a timely manner.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations, as applicable.
• Identify risk factors; report to management; provide recommendations for resolution.
• Provide timely, professional customer service.
• Provide required reports in a timely manner.
• Lead and manage fairly and equitably, in accordance with Jack Cooper’s policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable laws
• Other duties as needed.
Requirements
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 5 or more years’ relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
• Working knowledge of computers and programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Solid understanding of Load Factor and Load Efficiency standards.
• Superior understanding of DOT / OHSA regulations, as applicable.
• Working knowledge of company equipment, such as car hauling equipment, for purposes of training and evaluating processes. (Preferred)
• Solid decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

• Ability to follow standard operating procedures.
• Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
